Dear Diary

Am considering going to the Hamptons for the weekend, to escape all these damn children-of-all-ages reading the same damn book. It's going to be a telepathic minefield of overegged minds all having the same unguarded, overenthusiastic thoughts, all at different reading speeds. A nightmare in the making. If not the Hamptons, a bottle of vodka and some valium.

Is anyone here not reading the damn book this weekend? Do let me know. I may get concert tickets.

What book?

The 'boy wizard' book. You can ask Scott about it. It may not be your thing.

How old are you, Sarah, dear? I was thinking opera, but if Elisabeth is free, I may reconsider. Somewhere dark, dirty, dangerous and loud might be a more fitting antidote to all this sappy 'super-school adventures' nonsense.

Oh, that. Couldn't care less, honestly. Too pretty-pretty for my tastes.

And I'm seventeen. But don't let me ruin your weekend plans, I'm sure I can find a dark corner here to hide in until it's over.

Lord almighty.

Is there anything this is not too pretty-pretty for your tastes?

Just because a lot of people like something is no good reason to hate it on first sight.

Haven't found it yet, but when I do I'll let you know. Thanks for your concern and all.

Now fuck off.

Is only the sign of an uncreative mind.

Ah. I've been invited to a party tomorrow night by an old sparring partner of mine. A self-professed witch, 'bride of the moon' and all that nonsense. It's a private solstice party, so age isn't an issue. Perhaps you and Jono could come, and Elisabeth and I can chaperone. It's upstate, and some band called 'The Nuns' will be performing, with support from 'Diva Destruction'. Probably not my thing, but if I can sit through Wagner, I can sit through this.

It sounds deeply unwholesome, and I can promise it won't be the least bit educational.

Fun. They aren't going to be bothered by the bones, are they?

Call it a body modification and you'll be the toast of the evening, darling.

Thankfully, I won't be reading it. And I too was planning an escape...break. Vodka is a good start.

And how does punk rock and drunken witches sound to you? (See above.)

Sounds fabulous. The faster we get away, the better.

I should be locked-inside my quarters, avoiding the zealots. Come find me. Please.

I need to get out of here for a while and Harry Potter isn't my thing. Mind if I join in? I'm the same age as Sarah if that matters...

doesn't matter if not...I can spend the day boarding...whichever is fine with me, I just need to get out.

If your musical tastes stretch to it, Alex, and if your big brother doesn't mind, then I would be delighted to have such a handsome young man to drape on my arm.

I'm always willing to listen to different kinds of music. When you've worked on a beach that allows stereos, you adapt quickly to anything. And Scott shouldn't mind, though this asking of permission is a little new to me... and I don't know about the handsome part *blushes*

Book? I read comics.

Take me away from these insane people.

Emma? I do have an outing that's been scheduled for the music class on Sunday... to fetch their musical instruments in time for classes and all.

Mmmm. I can speak to the store owner and it could be moved to late afternoon or evening, after closing hours, however. Would that work out with your plans?

In the city? I'll do my level best to bring Alex and Jono back in time to join the rest of the class in the afternoon, if that's acceptable. I have your number, I can call you and let you know when we're likely to arrive.

I'm very sorry, Alison, I hadn't thought to check their schedules. If it's any consolation, the field trip will be musical.

Yes. No problem at all, I'll make sure to keep the cell phone open. We'll be going to the Sam Ash Music store - 160 West 48th Street, between 6th and 7th avenue).

Actually, I'd have gone along with you all, but I needed to prepare the trip, and going to one of those and not being able to move properly would have been far too frustrating anyway. ;)
